Hi! I’m Dominique. I live in heart of California with my firefighter husband James and my babies Liam & Paityn. We just purchased a fixer-upper with a little bit of land which we will be slowly renovating and making into our forever home. [eh hem, my husband would like me to emphasize slowly one more time]. We have a clan of dogs: Boston, Mila, and Tikaani; two Boxers & a Husky. And hopefully- all in good time we will add some more babies & some farm animals!
If nothing else I hope this blog spreads some sunshine into your day and inspires you to enjoy life to the max, and ultimately gives you a laugh here and there because life is meant to be fun!
You thought that was the end? Welp sorry no, by nature I’m an open book and long winded so I’m going to dive on deeper. I want you to get to know who I am at the core…
Since I can remember I’ve loved transforming spaces. As a little girl I would rather rearrange and decorate my barbie house instead of actually playing barbies. I guess design was just in my DNA.
I see myself as a storyteller. Clients hire me to write their biographies, but instead of words I use fabrics, furniture, architectural elements and of course personal items to them.-meredith heron, interior designer
And it kinda is. My Dad is a civil engineer and in my childhood home he had an open, elevated room with a wall that was basically a giant window where he would sit and do his drawings. Old school style. I love to watch him draw up spaces.
My Grandma, his mother, would have probably been a home design blogger in her day. She was an antique picker. She had a knack for interior design. Her home was featured in magazines.
Alongside her interior design skills, she documented everything on film and paper that could possibly be. She was a researcher. She was a natural storyteller. Usually of other people’s journeys. That was her passion- the history of people. She always had a great story to tell that took you out of your own self and helped you realize that there are always good things coming up around the corner. Always hope. Always laughter. It may be around a dark corner, but I’m so incredibly grateful for those amazing stories she told to me.
I love reading her travel logs. I can hear her voice like she’s with me in the room even though she’s gone now. My grandpa and she always traveled, even when they had nothing to their name and four young kids in tow. So her logs are full of adventure and the hilarity you’d need to stay sane in that situation! And even though her writing is short and concise I can envision the dialogue of crazy kids and my grandpa and her bickering in between her words.
My Grandma stressed two major things to me: “to smell the roses” and “to write it down/take a picture even if it’s not your best moment”.
This blog is all that plus my passion for home design intertwined.
It took me thirty years, but I realized I have a set of pretty invaluable stories to tell & skills to share. I’m sharing these things with you to help you, give you joy, and like I said…of course a good laugh. Because we need it! And if sharing my gifts does any of those things for you then it’s worth it.
As a person I am resilient, I always find the silver lining, and I’m always looking to grow and learn. I believe in surrounding yourself with positivity and a pretty pillow or two. My passions and hobbies include home decor, organization, gardening, traveling, and using my amazon prime membership to the max. I have been self employed for 15 years. I have created 2 businesses. I have a degree from The Craig School of Business. And now I am a mother to two beautiful children. When I’m not raising them you can find me dreaming up some sort of design space, shopping at home goods, or pouring my heart and soul into this blog.
I hope you enjoyed getting to know me a little better & thank you so much for being here. Send me a message and say hi!
